One of the more interesting programs to come along is Scott Watermasysk's open-source blogging engine for ASP.NET websites.  While this great blog is free the required SQL database is not.  And in addition, unless you are a very savvy user of .NET programs or perhaps a developer, it is not as easy as you might hope to install.  That is largely because when one brilliant programmer is writing a program to his colleagues there is a tendency to skip a few basic explanations.  They are obvious, so thinks the brilliant programmers so why insult my audience.   Or course the minute you make any assumptions about the experience of the user you limit the reach of your program.  Which is just fine for Scott Watermasysk, he is not trying to sell anything.
