DNS Alias
A DNS alias is when you have multiple domain names pointing at the same home directory.
For example, http://www.securewebs.com is a "root web server" and http://www.securewebs.us is just a DNS alias.  It is nothing more than a DNS record that points to the same web server.  This can be useful for several reasons.

1. Advertise more than one domain name.
2. Register common miss-spellings or variations of your domain name and use a DNS Alias.

A DNS alias is inexpensive or free but not always the best solution.  It is not really a web server.  In other words, if you don't want to show the same set of webpages for that domain, you need a separate web server.  One trick to avoid this is to use redirection to a sub-folder with a different set of pages.  Unfortunately for redirection once you arrive at the "root" web server and click on a link, the really web server URL will be displayed (unless you use shadow redirection which uses hidden frames).

Still, if you insist on a redirection solution you can use the SecureWebs free redirection service (if you are a SecureWebs customer).  The more deluxe and powerful solution is to have another completely different web server.   Redirection is only used as a budget cutting solution - there is no other reason to use it.  But there are many reason to consider registering more than one domain name and pointing it at the same home pages.
